About Elon University

Elon University, is a private liberal arts university located in Elon, which is a town in Alamance County, situated in US state of North Carolina, contained in the Burlington, North Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area, with a population estimated at a number of little over 7000 inhabitants, during the 2008 census. Elon is best known for the fact that it is home to Elon University, the town being formerly known as Elon College, until Elon College became Elon University, and for the fact that its downtown area houses The Shops at Elon.

Elon University was founded by the Christian Church, known today as the United Church of Christ, in 1889, as Elon College, adopting its current name on June 1st, 2001. The university accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and according to the U.S. News & World Report, it is one of the top southern master’s-level universities.
